The Münsterland is a region of North Rhine-Westphalia located in the north-west of Germany which takes its name from the city of Münster, around which stretches for about 6,000 km².
A feature of the region is the presence of many castles and villages, about a hundred, which are defined the Treasures of Münsterland.
This is a long term project that will be developed (it is appropriate to say it…) in black and white medium format film (6×6 with Hasselblad and 6×4.5 with Fuji). Why shooting on film and why in black and white? Because we wanted to pay homage to the past: during the construction of the castles there was no color photography, and of course even not digital, so the choice fell naturally on black and white film. The medium format negatives, once professionally scanned at a high resolution, will be able to produce excellent files to be used for large format prints and for the production of photographic books that will collect the best shots.
The project, every now and then, will bring us some extra shots that I’ve decided to call “special content“. When I think it’s the case to do that, I’ll take some photos in a different format than 6×6 or 6×4.5 and also in color. An example? Panoramic format photographs shot on 35mm film with a dedicated panoramic camera.
To involve you more into the project, for each shooting session will be recorded a short video that will serve as a production diary. In this way you can virtually come around with me into the Münsterland to discover its treasures.
